They say you’re never too old to learn something new, and I couldn’t agree more. Music has always been a passion of mine, but for years, I was experiencing the dance scene from behind a camera. As a photographer, I captured countless moments of DJs setting clubs and festivals on fire, feeling the energy, watching the crowd lose themselves in the music. But deep down, a dream was forming—a dream to not just document the party but to be the one making people dance.
For years, my role in the dance scene was to observe and immortalize the vibe through photography. I saw what worked, what made crowds explode with excitement, and how the right track at the perfect moment could create magic. But while I loved photography, there was always a voice inside telling me I wanted to do more than just capture these moments—I wanted to create them.
Taking that step from photographer to DJ wasn’t just about learning how to mix tracks. It was about embracing a whole new way of expressing myself. Music has been a constant passion, and now, with my Pioneer XDJ-RX3 and KRK speakers, I’m diving headfirst into crafting my own sound and sharing it with the world.
Starting something new can be intimidating, but the excitement of the journey outweighs the fear of the unknown. There’s a thrill in learning new techniques, understanding track selection, and developing a unique style. I’ve spent countless hours practicing, recording sets, and refining my skills—all with one goal in mind: to take my place behind the decks and make people move.
The dance scene has always felt like home, and now, as NitePowl, I’m stepping into a new role within it. The name itself is a reflection of who I am—a blend of ‘Night’ and ‘Powl’ (a mix of my name, Paul, and the nocturnal owl). It symbolizes my love for the night, the music, and the energy that fuels every great set.
This journey isn’t just about playing tracks; it’s about creating an experience. Every DJ set is a story, a journey through sound, and I can’t wait to share mine. Whether it’s small venues, clubs, or even festivals in the future, I’m ready to live this dream and turn it into reality.
